Not sure this has to do with PHP Tools, but I wanted to post here to check.
Since the last VS 2022 update (v.17.1.4), whenever I am running the Xdebug debugger, the ability to delete or rename files disappears. As soon as I kill the debug session the ability returns. (The ability to add, cut and copy remain available)
While I understand the precaution against deleting or renaming files that are being used in the current debug session (specifically the current script execution, i.e,, loading and processing a web page), this is very problematic for web application development:
- Adding a folder or file and misspelling the name forces me to stop the debug session, make the change, then restart the session. If the current debug session is targeting an especially intensive process that precludes closing the session, orphan files and folders are sometimes created that will need to be cleaned up later.
- Referring to 1. above, if I add a new folder using Add > New Folder, the folder is automatically named NewFolder, and in order to change it I need to stop the session, rename the folder, then restart the session.
- If an existing file needs to be renamed or deleted, I have to stop the debug session, make the change or deletion, then restart the session.
Again, not sure this has to do with PHP Tools, but I kind of feel it does as the debugger is the Xdebug included in the PHP Tools setup.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Jim
