PHP Install Issue in VS 2022

When I create a new PHP Web Project it fails to install PHP and writes the following output:

The project is created and when I run it, then it tries to install the debugging extension, which also fails because of the PHP issue.

I did also try to install "php-8.2.4-Win32-vs16-x64" and "php_xdebug-3.2.1-8.2-vs16-x86_64" manually and working correctly in windows. But this didn't help, it is still trying to download "PHP 8.2 (x64) for IIS Express" when starting a new PHP Web Project and it is still failing to run. The PHP Tools Options has been setup correctly showing everything is working as it should be.

I haven't yet been able to try the PHP Tools without errors. Can someone help me? Am I missing something?

Is there a specific directory that I should place the manually install of PHP and Xdebug to satisfy the PHP Tools and to make it working?

This was a bug in our feed, we've fixed it and it should work correctly now. If it still doesn't work, please delete these cache files %localappdata%\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer\*.xml

Okay, good to know. Though I still think there is something wrong on my side?

I have tried to create a new PHP Web Project again and the same error appears.

I then looked for the "Web Platform Installer" directory as you mentioned and discovered that I don't seem to have this installed (there is no directory with that name). When searching online I found that it is discontinued.

In the article it is mentioned that if I still need the Web Platform Installer, that I can setup a mini WebPI feed and installer repository locally.

But the same article also mentions, that it should have been integrated into Visual Studio, so I'm a bit in doubt why it isn't there already? Do you think I should I install the mini WebPI to make it work or could there be some components that I need to install in the Visual Studio Installer that would install it?

Hello,

Microsoft has discontinued webpi, but we have our own feed, independent of MS... at least until we move completely out of webpi.

Anyway, you shouldn't need to setup your own mini-feed. This should just work. A more likely scenario is that the feed with the bug got cached somewhere and you are still getting the old one.

If you still get An installCommands element contains an unrecognized child element. Line 9196, position 5. that's the case.

The update will use a new version of the feed, so there shouldn't be an issue. Until then, we just have to figure out how to get the update version to you.

Could you please check again for this folder %localappdata%\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer ? It should be there :-/

This folder doesn't exist but I looked into the "%localappdata%\Microsoft\Visual Studio" and deleted the "\Roslyn\Cache". I don't think this should have anything to do with it, but when I created a new PHP Web Project afterwards it started working. I don't know, maybe the relevant cache automatically got deleted when rebooting the computer?

Anyways, now it works! Thank you very much for the help, I'm looking forward to try out this tool.

Weird, Roslyn cache is independent of WebPI cache... anyway, I'm glad it works, so we can leave it at that :-)
