Migrate Old VS 2015 .suo file to the New VS 2022 DocumentLayout.json

Good Day!

I have dozens of PHP projects and each project has dozens of opened documents and distributed over 3 monitors, Now after upgraded to the Visual Studio 2022 I lost all opened documents stored in the .suo file.

I noticed that Visual Studio 2022 has a new method to store the opened documents in a DocumentLayout.json file rather than the old .suo file, and I googled for a solution and didn't find anything.

Am I the only person who lost his opened documents because of migrating from old Visual Studio? Should I use virtual machine to open every single project to see the opened documents and the last scene of every project?

Any Thoughts?

HadyShaltout Hi,

I haven't noticed the new file at all. I guess at some point I just reopened my documents and continued working.

Sadly, I'm unaware of any setting, menu command, or third-party tool that would transfer the opened document information to the new format.

I guess you have already tried deleting DocumentLayout.json file, in case, maybe, VS would restore the information from .suo?

Really? I have about 50 projects not a single one continue to display its opened documents or even the directories in the Solution Explorer pane, All projects opened like a fresh project even though I have dozens documents are opened and distributed over three monitors.

No solution over the web, I really can't believe that the Microsoft didn't make a migration tool for this purpose and what huge companies do for this situation.

I suggest reporting the issue/question on https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/VisualStudio - they are very responsive there.
